When my son Brian was three, he was diagnosed with autism. At the time, he only used a few words that meant something to him—like “dada,” “pap” (his favorite food), and “moon.”
He could sing entire nursery rhymes and recite the story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar by heart, but he couldn’t tell me what he wanted or how he felt. I remember feeling so helpless, trying every speech program, app, and flashcard I could find. Nothing seemed to help.
Everything changed when I learned that Brian is a Gestalt language processor (GLP). Suddenly, it all made sense—how he was learning language, why the usual methods weren’t working, and what he actually needed.
