As a passionate Urban Kiz dancer and teacher, I became extremely frustrated by the treatment of myself and many others in the industry—the unequal treatment of people based on gender, race, age, body, sexual orientation, and so on. The lack of pedagogical knowledge among “teachers,” the implicit emphasis on competition over community. Need I go on?

The way I was treated at my last job left me with so much rage that it has fueled the beginning of an entire movement to build a better world for all of us—and I’m grateful to everyone that’s been a part of it so far!

As I've begun building, I’ve also begun to learn more about the struggles of others and I believe I have a responsibility to do my part in building a better world for all of us. (I believe we all do!)

Though I make plenty of mistakes, my goals as a teacher, organizer, and community member are:

• to inspire others to take small actions that align more with their values, collectively building a better world
• to help my students foster confidence and self-awareness in addition to dance technique
• to continuously learn about harm reduction and remain accountable
• to ensure consent, respect, and kindness are at the foundation of everything we do
• to center those who haven’t always been centered whenever possible
• to do my best to provide safer spaces and to take action to protect others when necessary
• to be community-centered in my approaches and to continually work to improve
