The Confidence Factory

Jo-Anne Roberts is passionate about education, music and performance. She loves sharing her expertise with students of all ages. Jo-Anne has in her 30 years plus career worked with over 4,500 students!
Her students learn how to overcome limiting beliefs, to reverse an unhealthy mindset, to break free from anxiety and to enjoy performance, in a safe, fun environment.

Jo-Anne also has a dancing background, is an ANZCA examiner, and her principle instrument is the flute,
(although she admits she can play other instruments just enough to fool her younger students).
As a student and through to her first teaching position she struggled with performing and speaking in front of an audience. She wasn’t very confident in who she was. As a dancer, she was always at the back and never pushed herself forward. Nerves would just take over and she couldn’t control them.
As a flautist, she distinctly remembers crying before performances. ‘One overwhelming memory’, she says, ‘was when I was presenting for a performance exam and I just felt that I stuffed everything up and came out crying. In the end I got a B+ but at the time, I just couldn’t control my nerves’.

Her school reports always included ‘a nice quiet child’. Music reports always included ‘unfortunately nerves played a part in today’s performance’…

Jo-Anne has spent the last 5 years studying to understand why she had overwhelming performance
anxiety and how to overcome such roadblocks. During her study it has become obvious that her
program will not only help musicians, but anyone, who is anxious about putting themselves forward.
Overcoming Performance Anxiety has been written as an introduction to what can be achieved. It should be shared with as many people as possible - don’t waste years of suffering and re-inventing what Jo-Anne has already discovered and implemented successfully.

Jo-Anne’s motto is ‘Eliminating Performance Anxiety, across All Walks of Life’.

Student Testimonials
“Jo’s teaching style was the exact thing I needed whilst going through year 12. I felt completely supported but given enough space to explore. In fact there were things that Jo taught me that I took all the way through my music degree. Methods that I was able to pass onto other students and we were all the better for it. Jo really helped nurture my self-confidence and encouraged me with performance opportunities. I definitely would not be where I am today were it not for her support.”

“Possibly the most encouraging educator I’ve ever had. Jo would always find a way to convince us to have a go at something new. She was an expert at creating a fun, relaxed environment to deepen our knowledge and connection with music. The skills I’ve learnt from Jo I will no doubt carry with me for the rest of my life.”
