what is a reflexologist

What is Reflexology?

The ancient healing art of Reflexology is far more than a simple foot, hand or ear massage. Using distinct hand and finger techniques to apply pressure to specific points, or "reflexes", Reflexology helps relax the body, release tension, improve circulation, aid digestion, regulate bodily systems and support the body to come back to a natural state of health and balance.

Did you know that each foot has over 7000 nerve endings? There are more nerve endings per square inch in our feet than anywhere else on the body. The feedback these nerve endings provide to our central nervous system is vital. No wonder Reflexology brings the whole body health, not to mention it feels amazing!

What to Expect

A discussion will usually take place at the beginning of your visit describing the session, what to expect during the session, and the techniques that will be used. At the beginning of your visit we will discuss any particular troubles or issues, as well as your short term and long term health goals.

While receiving Reflexology you will rest comfortably on a massage table with your shoes and socks removed, under a comfortable blanket if you choose.

Please wear loose, comfortable clothing as I will be working on your feet and up your calves. If you are receiving hand reflexology I will be working your hands and forearms. If you are receiving ear reflexology I will be working your ears, neck and upper shoulders.

Light, relaxing music is typically played.

During a session you will feel light pressure on the areas being worked. There is no pain involved in my style of Reflexology.

Some people report feeling warmth or tingling sensations in various parts of their body while receiving reflexology. This is a normal reaction, and a good sign as we work along the neural pathways and your body responds to the signals.

The session should be very pleasant, and relaxing, and many people often doze or fall asleep.

Reiki

TLDR

  • 3rd level Reiki Master/Teacher.
  • Session lengths start at 30 mins.

I am a Reiki Practitioner attuned to the Reiki Master/Teacher level.

People seek Reiki treatments for a variety of reasons. Some incorporate Reiki as part of their regular wellness and healthy-lifestyle routine. Others come to me for Reiki for things like pain relief, trauma healing, coping with cancer treatment, stress relief, and a wide range of other reasons. Wondering if Reiki is right for you? Read on to find out more.

What is Reiki?

Did you know that, at rest, the average human body produces around 100 watts of power! The body has energy! 💡

Reiki is a form of energy healing that works with the energies both inside and outside the body. According to Reiki principles it is understood that pain or suffering arises when these energies go astray or encounter blockages and become misaligned. Reiki works to unblock and realign these energies and get the body back into a state of FLOW.

Hawayo Takata, the person that introduced the Western World to the practice of Reiki, once said, "I cannot tell you what Reiki is, but I can show you".

Reiki is one of those things like riding a motorcycle, surfing a big wave, or eating a delicious meal - you can read about it, but to truly understand it you must experience it firsthand!

What to Expect

A discussion will usually take place at the beginning of your session describing what to expect during the session, and allowing you an opportunity to discuss any particular problems or issues, as well as your goals and what you are hoping to achieve from your treatment.

While receiving Reiki you will rest comfortably on a massage table with your shoes removed, under a comfortable blanket if you choose. (note* for Distance Reiki you do not have to be in any particular place or posture, but I often conduct my DR sessions in the evening when the recipient is readying for, or in bed).

Light, relaxing music is typically played.

Unlike massage therapy, no articles of clothing are removed (other than your shoes). Loose, comfortable clothing is suggested.

A session can either be hands-on, where I will apply a light touch, or hands-off where I will hold my hands slightly above your body. If you prefer not to be touched, please indicate this before beginning.

The session will then proceed as I move through specific Reiki hand positions along the body.

During a session you may feel a warm or tingling sensation. Some people report seeing colours or images. Others feel a sense of lightness or floating. Everyone's experience is unique. You may simply experience sheer relaxation. Many people fall asleep or enter into a Zen or bliss-like state. The session should feel very pleasant, and enjoyable.

It's good to plan a little extra time in your schedule when having Reiki, as session length can be a bit fluid.

Meditation

TLDR

  • I have meditated all my life, with a consistent personal meditation practice since 2017
  • I have helped countless clients learn to meditate
  • meditation does not have to be scary, complicated or unobtainable

Meditation has been a constant in my life, but its profound impact truly unfolded when I decided to embrace it as a daily practice. This dedication followed a challenging period where I faced the loss of my mother to COPD, coupled with the recovery from a significant personal injury the year before. The emotional and physical toll of two years filled with grief and trauma had left me feeling utterly drained and depleted. In the midst of exhaustion, I turned to meditation, and that decision changed my life. As I delved deeper into the study and practice of meditation, a revelation dawned upon me –

meditation is a genuine superpower!

Since then, I've extended my journey by assisting clients in their meditation practices, guiding them on the transformative path to discover their own inner superpower!

What is Meditation?

Meditation means different things to different people. And that's what makes it so excellent! It is versatile and adaptable and can be practiced virtually anywhere! The mental and even physical health benefits of Meditation are innumerable. It helps lower anxiety and stress, helps cope with heightened emotions such as sadness and anger, helps with body pain, increases self awareness and self esteem, cultivates better focus and concentration, and fosters kindness. Simply put, Meditation is a tool for understanding, knowing, shaping, and liberating the mind.

What to Expect

Because of the vast applicability of meditation, it is hard to capture in a single paragraph what to expect. For example, a short meditation can be used at the beginning of a Reflexology treatment to help prepare the mind and body for relaxation and thereby reap a greater benefit from your Reflexology session. Or, you might like to try a full-body, progressive relaxation meditation as a treatment unto itself. Some of my clients see me for one-on-one guided meditations because they don't enjoy the group setting in which guided meditations are typically offered. If you are interested in incorporating meditation into another service, or trying it in any way, let's talk!

Techniques I use include Body Scan, Focused Attention, Visualization, Resting Awareness, Reflection, Noting, Guided Imagery, Progressive Relaxation, Mindfulness and more.
