About Me
Hi, I’m Bea, the cook behind The Rolling Galley.
I’m a self-taught cook who discovered my love for cooking while living, travelling and working aboard a private sportfishing vessel. What started as something I simply enjoyed soon became a real passion, and over the years I became more confident, adventurous and creative in the galley.
My partner and I eventually returned to New Zealand, where we ran our own sportfishing charter and lodge business. Cooking for our guests gave me the opportunity to keep developing my skills and, most importantly, to discover just how much I loved creating food for other people.
Fast forward to today, and life looks a little different. We’re now a family of four, living aboard our catamaran and on a mission to circumnavigate the world.
Cooking at sea comes with its own set of challenges. There are limited fridge and freezer spaces, changing weather, ingredients that aren't always available, and whatever we can find in the countries and islands we visit. Sometimes there’s a little foraging involved, sometimes a lot of improvising, and often a healthy dose of creativity!
The Rolling Galley is where I share the recipes, ideas and lessons I’ve picked up along the way — real food, made in a small galley, with whatever we have on hand.
Come along for the journey, and I hope you enjoy making these recipes as much as we’ve enjoyed creating and eating them along the way.
