The Shutterbug Club
The Shutterbug Club is a photography adventure designed to get children off screens, outdoors, and seeing the world in a whole new way.
Packed with fun, creative photo challenges, this downloadable workbook encourages children to explore, slow down, notice the little things, and build confidence through photography. Whether they're using a camera, phone, or tablet, every challenge is about creativity, curiosity, and having fun – not taking the "perfect" picture.
Perfect for school holidays, weekends, home education, or simply when you hear, "I'm bored!"
Suitable for children aged approximately 6–14 years.
Inside you'll find:
- Lots of fun photography challenges
- A photo scavenger hunt
- Tips to help children think like a photographer
- Space to reflect on favourite images
- Screen-free inspiration that gets kids outside exploring
The best photographs aren't always the technically perfect ones. They're the ones that tell a story, spark a memory, or make someone smile.
Let's inspire the next generation to see the world differently... one photograph at a time. 📸🌿
Jodie
Hi, I'm Jodie Cooling – a professional photographer, mum of two, and the founder of The Shutterbug Club.
I've spent over 20 years behind the camera, but some of my favourite photographs have never been taken by me. They've been taken by children.
Children see the world differently. They notice tiny insects hiding in the grass, interesting shadows, funny faces in tree bark, and colours most adults walk straight past. Give them a camera and something magical happens. They slow down, become curious, explore, and start telling stories through the images they create.
The Shutterbug Club was born from a simple idea: I wanted to encourage more children to get outside, be creative, and experience the joy that photography has brought me throughout my life.
This isn't about expensive cameras or becoming the next great photographer. It's about building confidence, encouraging imagination, spending time together as a family, and helping children see just how incredible the ordinary world really is.
Whether your child is picking up a camera for the very first time or already loves taking photos, I hope these challenges inspire them to explore, create, and most importantly... have fun.
I can't wait to see the world through their eyes.
Happy snapping!
