About Us

Theory Out the Trunk is a Black queer Southern literary and public humanities practice created by Omaria Sanchez Pratt and Amanda Bennett, Ph.D.

Rooted in creative writing, Black feminist thought, community gathering, and the belief that theory should be useful, portable, and alive, our work creates spaces where people can write, reflect, remember, and build toward freer lives.

We make zines, workshop texts, writing prompts, salons, gatherings, and public humanities tools for writers, artists, organizers, teachers, and anyone trying to reconnect with their lineage, clarify their values, and imagine otherwise.

Our work begins from the body, the backyard, the porch, the kitchen table, the garden, the altar, and the page.

No limit. No label.
