Thornton Sumner was born in Seattle and was educated at the Northwest College of Art in Poulsbo, Washington. Before becoming a full-time writer he pursued a number of odd professions which included: ballroom dance instructor, timberman for the Department of Natural Resources, and freelance artist painting murals and portraits. He currently lives with his cat, Diallo, in their apartment in Seattle, Washington.
