It was an English assignment in the ninth grade that first introduced Towanda to Maya Angelou’s I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings. This book allowed her to see that she too could one day make a difference if she found the courage to open her mouth and speak.
She never fathomed using her own testimony nationally to inspire others until God showed her a vision many years ago. Though she attempted to run from what was shown to her, she later learned “If you want to make God laugh tell him YOUR plans for the life HE HAS ORDAINED FOR YOU!”
Towanda continues to speak publicly and was acknowledged as a Blazing Star in 2018 by the Ann Arbor Club National Association of Negro Business Professional Women’s Club, Inc of Michigan for excellence in blazing the path forward and inspiring others to follow.
