About Me
I am a multi-discipline artist/designer. I work mostly in mixed media and acrylics, and I design knitwear, crochet for the home as well as one's wardrobe, and I am a small batch yarn hand dyer. I’ve been into textiles … like … forever, and am especially into color. While I have an Instagram account (@denisevoiedevie), it has become virtually my only online social media footprint (as well as this Payhip store). I am spending less and less time on mass social media, given the rise of tech broligarchs and AI.
My designs and articles (crochet techniques, historical) have been published in all the normal hand knit and crochet industry publications for more than a decade.
While I don't lead with my formal education, I put myself through Harvard University at night in their evening Extension program, earning an ALB as an older, non-traditional student. I am the first in my immediate family to earn a BA. I went on to earn a JD from CUNY School of Law in NY in 2002. 9/11 was and remains an indelible and life-changing part of my legal educational experience.
I have nurtured my creativity throughout my entire life, despite the constant need to support myself. I am at a point in my life where I am reclaiming my time, and art/design is now my focus along with community. I have served several tours within AmeriCorps, the most recent of which was with my local county public health department in the first half of 2025. I firmly believe in the power of art - on a personal and community level. My art practice is a vital part of my life. The practice of making is a fulfilling experience for me. While undoubtedly I would like my art to be seen and experienced everywhere (!), that is not the foot with which I lead. It is the creative path that leads to deep personal understanding which is my north star and the best way I know how to live in this world.
