About Me

Hi Root Bearers — I’m Myeshia, the heart behind Yo Mama’s Rooted Living.

I began growing houseplants during a tumultuous time in my life—searching for peace, grounding, and a way back to myself. What started as a healing practice quickly evolved into something deeper: a calling to reconnect Black and Indigenous people with the land, our ancestral knowledge, and our inherent power.

Houseplants taught me patience, confidence, and communion. They showed me that if I could learn to nurture one small living thing, I could grow anything.

In 2023, I grew my first bell pepper plant indoors. That one seed became the catalyst for everything I know now.

And in Spring 2025, my son and I grew our very first balcony garden using SNAP benefits—potatoes, strawberries, okra, peppers, watermelon—right as the federal government launched aggressive attacks on food access and food security in our communities.

When SNAP benefits were targeted later this year, it became painfully clear:

✨ We cannot wait for systems to save us.

✨ We must grow what sustains us.

✨ And we deserve the tools to do it.

But when I first started, information was scattered everywhere. Nothing was in one place. And almost nothing was written for us—for people growing food in small spaces, on tight budgets, within systems designed to restrict our access.

So I created this guidebook and workbook bundle as an act of resistance, remembrance, and reclamation.

A resource to make food sovereignty simple, accessible, and possible—

even in the smallest apartments,

even with the tightest budgets,

even with limited time or experience.

This is more than a garden guide.

It’s a movement toward self-sufficiency, healing, and liberation.

Welcome.

I’m honored to root into this journey with you.
