My Story
For quite a while the longest running joke was my yearly New Year’s resolution to lose weight. Year after year I just couldn’t seem to achieve it. I’d be on it for weeks hell even months, but then somehow I’d get off track and fail altogether. In 2017 I reached 225lbs. The heaviest I’ve ever been. From there something clicked and I knew something had to change. A switch flipped and it stayed on.
Fast forward to today, 2023. I’m currently sitting at 175lbs. Best shape I’ve ever been in my life and to be frank I am so fucking glad that switch flipped because if it didn’t I’d be miserable. The past 5 years wasn’t smooth sailing, but it was a journey. I’ve learn a lot throughout the years, but a few things stuck with me. DISCIPLINE, TIME, CONSISTENCY, and EFFORT.
When I started this journey I was highly motivated. It felt easy I was just cruising. But days, weeks, months go by and the hard days came. No motivation. I didn’t want to put in any work. The only way I got through it was with DISCIPLINE. Regardless of how I felt work had to be done. I’ve learned that whether it was a good day or bad day I always felt better after putting in the work.
This takes TIME. There’s no easy way around it. Like everyone I wish there was a magic pill to make these changes overnight, but that isn’t the case and it will never be. It cannot be rushed. So sit back and enjoy the ride.
Losing weight was the easy part. Keeping it off is where real work sets in. This isn’t a one time thing. Just because the weight loss is achieved it doesn’t mean it stops there. Meaningful work must be put in constantly. Eat the right foods, exercise regularly, recover religiously, etc. It’s the CONSISTENCY of these practices and the EFFORT you put into these practices that keep it off.
It has truly been a journey. Sooner or later it won’t even be about weight loss anymore. I find myself thinking about my overall health nowadays. Just trying to work towards being able to move freely and painlessly for as long as I can.
Can’t wait for what’s next. Cheers!
