Grishk District Explained

Grishk district is a district in the helmand province, which is located near the city of Gereshk, which is what the province is named after. It is located near the Helmand River, and Highway 1 runs through it. The afghans grew stuff that would be illegal in the US, but they can grow it there because it is legal there. A little less then half of all opium as estimated to come from the Helmand Province. The talibans fought desperately for that reason, but while ISAF pushed closer up the river, then the trade of the illegal things went more up the river (to the taliban) while the legal stuff got trader more down the river.

The Greenzone:

The greenzone has alot of vegetation and that makes it a perfect place to hide. A tactic often used by the taliban is to shoot or do an ambush, then run away through the different farms and creaks. The brits often called them "Single shot Freddy", and it was pretty annoying. The area is normally a taliban hotspot, because they can easily hide and get away.

Highground:

Highground is the place right beside the greenzone. The highground and the desert is elevated from the greenzone, and that is why they call that section the highground. The highground is normally used as an overlook place for different units. The units could consist of tanks and ifv's providing firesupport, from the highground, since it is elevated and you can look down onto the greenzone. That gives the highground a unique tactical advantage, that is often used by TACP, FO and other tactical elements.

Desert:

The desert is what the most of the Helmand province is. That is where highway 1 goes through. Highway 1 is the highway that goes through the hole afghanistan, and that is why the taliban often lays IED's there. It is also where the FOB's are often located.
