Ice Floe takes it’s inspiration from the patterns and shifts in colour seen in majestic, slow moving glaciers on their barely perceptible journeys through the landscape. Designed to showcase the gentle gradients found in the John Arbon Textiles range Knit by Numbers, this DK weight project uses a set of six mini skeins, moving from the darkest tone through to the lightest and back again. A narrow i-cord edging keeps things neat whilst the rhythmic stitch pattern keeps things interesting!

Pattern Notes

This wonderful textured stitch pattern is completely reversible which makes it perfect for a stylish and elegant cowl. It's worked flat and seamed. Alternatively you could use a provisional cast on and join the ends with a three-needle bind off.

Both written and charted instructions are given for the 24row stitch pattern repeat, along with the 'recipe' for using the six colour mini skein set. This uses up pretty much all of the yarn so when substituting yarn keep the yardage in mind and check your gauge or you may run out!

Skill Level
Moderately easy - just knits and purls and slipped stitches. You do need to pay attention to your slipped sts with yarn at front or back though…
The cowl is knit flat and seamed. If you prefer you can start with a provisional cast on and use a 3-needle bind off to finish.

Sizes
Finished size if knit to pattern is 80cm around and 21cm deep. Add or subtract multiples of 4sts if you want a deeper or narrower cowl and add or decrease rows to make your cowl longer or shorter if you wish but bear in mind that this will affect yarn quantities required.
