Cobbled Streets is inspired by my wanderings around the old, back streets of Gloucester and the variety of textures that can be found there. Old stone and new, concrete and cobbles, wrought iron railings and cast metal manhole covers. A plethora of pattern just waiting to be knit up!

It is an asymmetric triangular shawl, knit from the point up, increased at a rate of one stitch on every wrong side row for a gentle sloping increase.
The finished shawl is large enough to wrap around your shoulders and can be worn with or without a shawl pin or brooch to keep it in place.

I am aware that some people prefer to knit from charts and others prefer written instructions so I have included both in this pattern!
I am also aware that while some people are happy to follow a pattern on their tablet or phone, others (like me!) prefer to print a hard copy – because you never know when you might need to make notes…

In the interests of the environment, I have arranged the layout so you don’t need to print the whole thing.

If you are comfortable with mainly charted instructions then you only need print pages 6-8

If you prefer written instructions then print pages 3-5

Yarn Requirements

Daughter of a Shepherd Ram Jam worsted (115m/126yds per 50g)
4 skeins col 1 light grey (MC)
1 skein col 3 natural black (CC)

Or

500m/550yds worsted weight yarn in MC
130m/140yds worsted weight yarn in CC

Or for single colour version

630m/690yds worsted weight yarn

The sample used up pretty much ALL the yarn specified so gauge is important if you don’t want to run out of yarn! The quantities suggested if you want to use an alternative yarn have a little extra added for safety but if you do want to use Rachel’s wonderful RamJam and you are worried your tension may be looser than mine, (or you just don’t like the added adrenaline rush of playing yarn chicken!), I would suggest you purchase an extra skein of the light grey * just in case *

Gauge
26sts x 23 rows = 10cm over 1x1 rib on 4.5mm needles
19sts x 29 rows = 10cm over cobble pattern (chart 3) on 4.5mm needles, blocked
