The Midwinter Shawl is a huge hug of a shawl to wrap up in and keep those chills at bay!
Knit with a combination of dk and chunky weight yarn on 5mm needles, the shawl works up quickly with lace panels to add a little texture and interest. Increases down the centre spine and at each edge produce a deep triangular shawl with the drape and curve of a crescent shawl. The extra long ties allow you to wear the shawl multiple ways for a truly versatile wardrobe piece.

Skills needed
approx 246m/270 yds dk yarn in your main colour (this is for the stocking stitch and lace panels)
approx 166m/180yds chunky weight yarn for the contrast garter stripes
Gauge
15sts x 24 rows = 10cm stocking stitch, worked in MC (DK yarn) on 5mm needles BLOCKED
The tension is quite loose as your main colour DK yarn is worked on larger than normal needles. This is the tension after blocking which opens out the fabric.
Tension is not critical to finished shawl but may affect final measurements and yarn requirements
Needles
5mm circular needle (or size required to get gauge), 100cm recommended due to large number of sts at end of shawl!
Notions
mid top to point = 60cm/23”
wingspan (excluding ties) = 160cm/63”
ties (each) = 45cm/17.5”
