The Tall Chevron Scarf is part of the Tall Chevron Collection by Becca Hulme Designs, alongside the Tall Chevron Hat, Cowl and Wrist Warmers.

This started as a Christmas present (the scarf) when I was given a specific request for a scarf with chevrons. It had to be ‘masculine’ and ‘long enough to fold in half and tuck in’. It then turned into the creation of a pattern based on requests from people who saw photos of the finished scarf.

The pattern is written for two sizes both of which consist of 2x2 ribbing blending seamlessly into a central chevron pattern. The chevron section of the scarf is provided in both written and charted formats.

Yarn weight: Aran / 10 ply (8wpi)
Gauge: 34 sts & 28 rows = 10cm / 4in in 2x2 rib
Needle recommendation: 4.5mm / US7

Sizes:
Small width - 19cm/7.5in wide by 200cm/79in long
Large width - 25.5cm/10in wide by 200cm/79in long

Grey scarf pictured in large size. Yarn: Rico Design Essentials Soft Merino Aran. Colour: 094 Medium Grey

Suggested yarn:
Rico Essentials Soft Merino Aran 100m/50g
Small - approx. 550m (6 balls)
Large - approx. 700m (7 balls)

The scarf is constructed from end to end allowing for it to be lengthened or shortened to suit your taste. Please bear in mind though that this will also alter the amount of yarn required.

Gauge is somewhat unimportant as this is not a fitted garment, however, if it is too far off, this may alter the amount of yarn required or the sizing of the finished scarf.

A locking stitch marker or scrap yarn may be useful to keep track of which side is which. The finished scarf is reversible, the pattern is not.

It is suggested that you weigh your yarn to gauge how much you will need to end the scarf with the same length ribbing as you began with.

There is plenty of scope for adaptation in terms of width and length and instructions and figures for this are given in the pattern.

Please note:
  • Through testing my Tall Chevron Collection patterns, testers have noted that the pattern tends to show up better in more solid coloured yarns and suggested that busier yarns are avoided.
  • A number of my testers noted that they needed to drop to needle size 3.5mm (US4) to match my gauge.
All of my patterns are thoroughly tested before release - A huge thank you to my test knitters who help to make my ideas a reality!
