Estudio Nº 12: Así Zea

🇺🇸 A tribute to admiration and the Venezuelan guitar lineage.

Composed in Maracay in July 2005, this work included in the Fifteen Venezuelan Studies serves as a profound nod to Maestro Luis Zea, one of the figures most admired by the composer. The title, a wordplay on a tour by the honoree, encapsulates a musical connection spanning generations.

The piece opens by citing the initial intervals and tonality of the "Vals Elegíaco," the work with which Zea honored Antonio Lauro. However, Silva takes this reference to a different territory. Dedicated also to his student Sandra Requena, this study does not seek to imitate the formal structure of the waltz but rather to channel that heritage into a new expressive path.

For the student, it is an opportunity to explore the subtlety of quoting and the weight of tradition, requiring a touch that balances homage with personal interpretation.

Compuesto en Maracay en julio de 2005, esta obra incluida en los Quince Estudios Venezolanos sirve como un profundo guiño al Maestro Luis Zea, una de las figuras más admiradas por el compositor. El título, un juego de palabras tomado de una gira del homenajeado, encierra una conexión musical que atraviesa generaciones.

La pieza abre citando los intervalos iniciales y la tonalidad del "Vals Elegíaco", la obra con la cual Zea honró a Antonio Lauro. Sin embargo, Silva lleva esta referencia hacia un territorio distinto. Dedicado también a su alumna Sandra Requena, este estudio no busca imitar la estructura formal del vals, sino canalizar esa herencia hacia un camino expresivo nuevo.

Para el estudiante, es una oportunidad de explorar la sutileza de la cita y el peso de la tradición, exigiendo un toque que equilibre el homenaje con la interpretación personal.
