These colorful socks are a memorial for my cousin, Max Drasak, who died of neuroblastoma in June 2006. They are adorned with familiar motifs from some of the video games Max liked. The racing checkers, stars, and upside-down question marks are inspired by Mario Kart. The honeycomb life bar, music notes, and puzzle pieces hail from Banjo Kazooie. As you knit, think fondly of a boy who loved Jesus, drawing & learning, and his friends & family. The Max Sox have fun and nostalgic video game motifs, suitable for adventurous beginners and experienced knitters alike. This unisex pattern is worked cuff down with a comfortable mid-calf leg, and has a traditional slipped stitch heel flap, and gusset. These socks knit up quickly - the colorwork section is hard to put down because it is so much fun watching the themed motifs grow; and later on the plain foot is great for knitting on the go or while watching loved ones play video games.

Sizing Tip: Sometimes our leg is one size and our foot is another. CO for the leg size you need. Then you can decrease to a smaller size stitch count right before the heel-flap or during the gusset.
