We all know a sports fan. I knit this hat for a guy who lives and breathes his team; he even had the elastics for his braces in his team’s colors! (And this tells you how long I've known said guy) I've used a DK weight superwash merino for warmth and as an acknowledgment that this isn't for someone who will handwash.

Started at the ribbing, MVP features linen stitch stripes that can easily be personalized to your MVP’s team colors.

Gauge: 26 sts & 28 rnds = 4”/10 in linen stitch knit in the round

Materials:
DK weight yarn  (Sample shown was knit in Diamond Luxury Collection Fine Merino DK (100% merino; 137 yds/125 m = 50g)) in the following amounts (Color choices shown in original hat are given; they make a hat suitable for a Calgary Flames fan)
  • 110 yds of MC (black)
  • 30 yds of C1 (red)
  • 15 yds of C2 (yellow)
  • 5 yds of C3 (white)
size 4.0 mm/US 6 needles for knitting in the round  (I used a 16” circular, changing to dpns during the crown shaping)
st marker for beginning of round

This pattern is fully written out; there are no charts. It's an easy pattern for a knitter who wants to move on to adding texture to a basic striped hat.

Skills/Techniques Used:
  • knitting in the round
  • slipping stitches with the yarn held in front (sl 1 wyif)
