Released from prison due to her Chronic Pain Disorder, Gemma is given a support dog, Ruby, to help her cope.
Her new home in Deden, is a village of ex prisoners who have turned over a new leaf. The next door neighbour threatens Gemma when his cat is chased from the garden by Ruby.
Gemma makes friends with a few of the neighbours who have inherited the cottages from their black sheep ancestors. The couple across the road warn the cat owner to behave, or suffer the consequences. Due to the unpleasantness from the man next door, Gemma wonders if living in Deden is the right place for her to be.
