Teacher Self-Reflection: Weekly Classroom Climate Self-Check, High School
The Friday Five covers praise vs correction, routines, relationships, rough spots, and your own stress. A quick praise to correction tally for one class period on one day sits next to ideas when you are stuck and a quarterly look back. This is not an evaluation. Nobody sees it but you.
When a class goes sideways for a few weeks, it is tempting to look only at the kids. Five minutes on Friday looking at your own week usually tells you more. Do it before you leave on Friday. Pick one thing to adjust next week, just one. The quick tally of praise and corrections is humbling the first time. It was for me. Instructional coaches can use it as a starting point with a teacher who asks for help. The 1 to 4 ratings are for you, not a score anyone else sees. The quarterly look back helps you see trends across a few months: whether your praise went up, whether a rough period passed, and what helped. If you coach new teachers, it is a gentle, non evaluative way to start a conversation about classroom climate that the teacher leads.
For teachers, paras, and instructional coaches. Any grade level.
