This turn taking task box builds waiting and sharing in three levels, from simple turn orders to fair plans with a clock.

Why I made this: Taking turns sounds simple, but it pulls together a lot of hard skills: waiting, watching, asking, and accepting "not yet." It also shows up everywhere after school, from sharing a copier at work to taking turns in a conversation. This box starts with simple turn orders and builds up to planning fair turns with a clock, which is a skill my older students use on job sites.

What’s included (22 pages):

• Level A ●: 12 "whose turn?" cards with turn orders to finish

• Level B ■: 24 choice cards for waiting, sharing, and taking turns in class, at home, and at work

• Level C ▲: 24 cards with game rules, sign up sheets, and turn schedules with time and counting

• A "my turn, waiting, your turn" mat, a "while I wait" page, and 6 cue cards

• 3 practice pages, one for each level

• Answer key for every card

• Data sheet and a 10 session accuracy graph

• A try it for real page with an adult check

• Ideas for practicing at home and around school, and blank cards

How I use it: I play a short game with the turn mat first, then students work on their level in the task box. We post a real sign up sheet for the class computer, and I take data on the data sheet and the adult check.

Who it is for: Special education teachers in structured, self contained, and life skills classrooms, resource rooms, counselors, and paras, for students in grades 5 to 8 and older students who need the same skills.

What you download: Turn Taking Task Box Social Emotional.pdf (22 pages, US Letter, print ready)

How this is different: This is a structured task box with levels and data. No live product teaches turn taking, and no text is shared.
