For as long as Bali’s tourism industry has been around, there has been a perpetual fear of ‘change’. Whilst ‘change’ threatens the existing status quo, it is a persistent and inevitable force, and so society, or in this case Bali, must find ways to deal with it.
To demonstrate that Bali is no stranger to ‘change’, in this edition we share how Balinese culture has evolved over the centuries. Through understanding and appreciating the many transformations Bali has endured and experienced, helps one realise that the Bali of today is in fact a result of influence and external forces. It is in fact a sum of parts, and that is what defines it.
