Beary Cozy Gnome

Gneddy is comfortable with comfort. She’s learned that it's best not to take life too seriously. Her hat collection isn’t large compared to most gnomes, but she prizes playful expression and seeks out hats that make her smile. Gneddy spends every moment she can outside, even when frosty moments mean cold hands.

I’ve designed this gnome in fingering weight yarn from Ancient Arts Fibre Crafts. During the knitalong, many dyers provided DK weight yarn and many knitters made Gneddy in larger yarns. To see their versions for a sense of the size and yardage, click here. See below for tips.

•Fingering Weight Yarn

3 mini skeins Ancient Arts Socknado (80% superwash merino, 20% nylon); 76 yd. / 70 m per 20 g skein; colours shown:

Approximate Yardage

(with a 15% buffer)

•Needles 

US 1 / 2.25 mm and US 1.5 / 2.5 mm needles for knitting small circumference in the round, or size needed to get gauge.

•Notions 

removable stitch markers, yarn needle, roving or polyfill stuffing, weighted stuffing like poly pellets or split peas

Gauge

30 sts and 46 rounds = 4” / 10 cm in stockinette stitch in the round on smaller needles, soaked and laid flat to dry

DK Weight

•Needles - US 3 / 3.25 mm and US 4 / 3.5 mm needles for knitting small circumference in the round, or needles you can get a good toy gauge with (i.e. a firm fabric that won’t show the stuffing)
