Some families only hear from school when something went wrong. After a few years of that, they flinch when the school number shows up on their phone. A good news note changes that faster than anything I know.

What's included:

• 24 fill in notes for younger and older students

• A script for a two minute good news phone call

• A class tracker so no kid gets left out

How I'd use it:

Send them to every kid, and on purpose to the ones you usually call about for other reasons. Be specific: what they did, not just "great day." I'd aim for a couple a day and use the tracker so you can see who you have missed.

The notes print several to a page, so you can cut a stack and keep them on your desk. They come in a younger and an older version so a 7th grader does not get something that looks babyish. Notes that mention a real skill work best: kept trying, used a calm tool, asked for help instead of shutting down. Those are the moments families rarely hear about, and they are often the ones that took the most effort. The phone call script keeps it to two minutes, which is about all anyone has.

Who it's for: Teachers, paras, and administrators. Grades K 12.
