Rustic Mountain Huts of the Australian High Country

For some reason we have always been drawn to the rustic huts scattered throughout the Snowy Mountains and High Country of Australia. So much so even our own home back at “Mountain Shack” reminds us of these fascinating and quint essential Australian dwellings. Most summers you will find us exploring the magnificent mountain regions in the south either revisiting or finding new huts that we have not explored previously. Some of these huts are accessible via vehicle whilst others via either short or longer more demanding hikes. However you find your way to our beautiful mountain huts we hope your heart will also be captured and be drawn back to many of these in the years to come, we know we continue to be. Many of these structures stand testament to a time when hearty cattlemen drove their stock to higher pastures for the summer months and although today much of this area is incorporated into national parks the lasting legacy these structures represent now provide a vital survival shelter for when the weather turns ugly up here.
