About Us

Mountain Shack Travels

Chris and Sandra have had a passion for traveling, camping and photography for many years. In 2008 they established Mountain Shack Publications to self publish Australian based guide books to inspire others who like themselves have a love and passion for the Australian bush and for what is now coined as “overlanding”. Prior to this both Chris and Sandra spend much of their working life in the health care field both having a background in nursing and both working for the Ambulance Service for many years. Following a move to the Blue Mountains which piqued their interest in exploring the great Australian bush the pair set about escaping into this vast wonderland at every opportunity. This became more evident when they purchased their first 4×4 in 2004, a Holden Rodeo Dual Cab Utility. With this new acquisition came more exploring both on and off the beaten track and it wasn’t long before they began building up their 4×4 tourer. Apart from the usual 4wd add ons of a bullbar, winch, driving lights, dual battery system, canopy and rear storage drawers (a suspension upgrade and snorkel were fitted later as funds became available) an Australian made Shippshape Rooftop Tent was added which they still use today and is one of the best investments they ever made.

When not on the road travelling Chris and Sandra are lucky enough to reside on their bush property high up on the Central Tablelands of New South Wales a few hours west of Sydney and just over the beautiful Blue Mountains. They share their mountain hideaway with a myriad of wildlife including kangaroos, wallabies, wombats, echidnas and the odd wedge tailed eagle.
