Who this resource is for

This resource is designed primarily for:

  • Children ages 3–5
  • Early kindergarten learners who need comparison review
  • Children practicing More, Fewer, and Same Amount
  • Children whose answers are affected by picture size, row length, spacing, arrangement, or side position
  • Children who benefit from counting, matching, drawing, or moving real objects
  • Parents and caregivers who want short, structured practice without score pressure

This resource may not be the right fit when

  • The child already compares picture groups and close quantities independently
  • You are looking for numeral-writing practice
  • You want addition or subtraction instruction
  • You are looking for formal instruction using >, <, and =
  • You need a classroom, tutoring-group, daycare, co-op, or organization license
  • You expect a diagnostic assessment or guaranteed mastery
  • You intend for the child to complete the Color and Ink-Friendly editions as two separate courses

This product supports guided family practice. It is not a diagnostic tool, grade-placement test, or promise that a child will master the skill within a fixed number of days.

Begin calmly

Start with the Parent Guide and complete the Two-Minute Starting Check.

Choose the first Level where support is repeatedly needed, print either the Color or Ink-Friendly edition, and use one short practice session at a time.

Open the Hands-On Toolkit only when real objects would make the idea clearer. Let repeated patterns—not one answer—guide what comes next.

Download the complete system and begin with the Two-Minute Starting Check.

7-Day MORE, FEWER & SAME Starter Pack

Picture-Based Early Math Comparison Practice for Ages 3–5

Plus Early Kindergarten Review

A child may identify an obvious difference between two groups, then become uncertain when the pictures are spread farther apart, drawn in different sizes, rearranged, or separated by only one object.

For a grown-up, the difficult part is often deciding what the child needs next. Would another picture help? Should the child count, match objects, use real materials, repeat one activity, or simply stop for the day?

A completed worksheet can show whether an answer was correct, but it does not always explain what influenced the answer.

A focused approach to early quantity comparison

More, Fewer & Same organizes picture-based comparison practice into three skill Levels:

  • Level 1 — Ready to Notice: clear More, Fewer, and Same Amount comparisons
  • Level 2 — Ready to Compare: size, spacing, shape, and arrangement traps
  • Level 3 — Ready for Close Calls: groups that differ by one and mixed comparisons

The Parent Guide includes a short Starting Check to help the grown-up choose the first Level where support is repeatedly needed.

Each Child Practice edition contains 21 guided sessions across the three Levels. Most families will begin with only the seven-session Level selected in the Parent Guide. The child does not need to complete every Level, every page, or both practice editions.

What makes the system different

The practice is organized around a simple routine:

LOOK → ASK → SHOW → DECIDE

The grown-up gives the child time to look, asks one clear comparison question, accepts a useful way of showing understanding, and then decides whether to move forward, repeat one activity, use real objects, or stop.

Children may show how they know by:

  • Looking or pointing
  • Touching and counting
  • Matching objects one-to-one
  • Drawing pairs
  • Moving real objects
  • Giving a short explanation
The goal is to help the child compare quantities and show useful evidence of their thinking.

Choose one Child Practice edition

The purchase includes:

  • A full-color Child Practice edition
  • A lower-ink Child Practice edition

Both editions follow the same three-Level skill path. Choose the edition that suits your printer and child. There is no need to print or complete both.

Use the Hands-On Toolkit when needed

The optional Hands-On Toolkit provides activities for times when real objects would make the comparison clearer.

It includes:

  • One-to-one matching mats
  • Same Amount rearrangement activities
  • Household-object comparison missions
  • Child-created More, Fewer, and Same Amount examples
  • Size, spacing, and arrangement challenges
  • Close-call practice
  • Reusable Question Cards
  • Reusable Action Cards

Open it when moving, matching, proving, or creating would support the specific difficulty you noticed.

The actual Toolkit includes matching mats, visual-trap activities, close-call tasks, household-object practice, and reusable cards
