Every year, the changing of leaves makes me pause and enjoy. The maple tree in my front yard casually changes from green to red, and while I know this happens every year, I continue to marvel at the intense colors each season. SEASONALITY is a striped shawl-style cowl that celebrates autumn: the crisp wind, the stunning colors, the need for wool!! This piece is knit in 2 colors, a skein of non-superwash DK paired with a skein of handspun yarn. For a similar look, pair a tonal color with a coordinating handspun or long color-changing yarn. The cowl is knit flat and seamed, and the finished piece is reversible.

YARN – COLOR 1

Viking Fiber Company Nornir DK, 60% Wool, 30% Corriedale, 10% Romney, 230 yd / 210 m per 100 g or similar DK weight yarn, 1 skein, www.vikingfiberco.com.

YARN – COLOR 2

2-ply handspun yarn, approximately 16 WPI (wraps per inch), 1 4-oz braid spun into yarn. Fiber is 100% Grey Corriedale by Into the Whirled, www.intothewhirled.com.

Use any sport to DK weight yarn you prefer for this design. To achieve a similar look to the sample, choose a tonal yarn for C1 and a gradient or long color change yarn for C2.

C1: colorway Quaking Venom, 193 yd / 177 m (84 g)

C2: colorway Conjubilant, 207 yd / 189 m (69 g)

FINISHED DIMENSIONS

Circumference: 26” / 66 cm at neck edge

Front depth: 19.5” / 49.5 cm

Neck depth: 6.5” / 16.5 cm

Working with a different amount of yarn? No worries! Reserve approximately 10 g of yarn for bind-off row or even add in an extra color for the penultimate row and icord bind-off.

GAUGE & NEEDLES

17 stitches & 30 rows = 4” / 10 cm in pattern, blocked. Gauge is not critical but will impact finished size and yarn requirements.

US 6 / 4.0 mm circular needle, min. length 32” / 80 cm or size needed to get gauge
