Even during the spring and summer there are days when you need to wear a hat; for style, for practicality of keeping your hair covered, or simply because the weather is a little cooler. This hat is light-weight, and the lace pattern ensures you will not overheat. The brim is designed to be snug, so your hat won’t fall off while you’re wearing it, while the increases from the brim to the body of the hat means the hat is not tight over the main part of your head.

Spring Breeze Hat is designed to be knitted in the round from the brim upwards. It begins with a twisted rib on smaller needles, then transitions to columns of little arrowhead lace and mock cables on a reverse stocking stitch background worked on larger needles. Decreases are worked within the patterning to shape the crown.

First published in Knit Now in April 2026, Spring Breeze Hat is now available as an individual pattern, with an additional extra-large size.

Notes

  1. You can increase/decrease the slouchiness of the hat by adding/removing repeats of the Lace Stitch Pattern before working the crown.
  2. Blocking the hat on a balloon inflated to the required size avoids creating creases in the hat as it dries and encourages the lace pattern to open up. The lace will relax and pull in after blocking but will be ready to stretch again and reveal its full beauty when worn.
