French Adverbs Engine™
Why this exists
French adverbs cause confusion because formation rules and placement rules are usually taught separately. Students are left unsure which rule applies at any given moment.
The result is memorised lists, guesswork, and inconsistent placement.
What this engine is
The French Adverbs Engine™ is a one-page, rule-based grammar reference designed to make adverb formation and position predictable, explainable, and teachable.
It replaces memorised lists and partial rules with a clear structural system that teachers can explain and students can apply consistently.
This is a structural reference tool, not a worksheet and not a shortcut.
It makes explicit:
• how adverbs are formed
• when adjectives convert to adverbs
• where adverbs are placed in relation to the verb and tense
It supports explanation, checking, revision, and error diagnosis in the classroom.
What this engine does well
The Adverbs Engine:
• organises adverbs by formation type, not memorised lists
• clarifies regular -ment formation and spelling changes
• highlights fixed and irregular adverbs
• shows position rules clearly across common tenses
• reduces random adverb placement and over-generalisation
How it works (at a glance)
- Identify how the adverb is formed
- Apply any required spelling or form changes
- Place the adverb according to verb tense and structure
Once the sequence is followed, correct forms become predictable.
