The future is not coming. It is already here. Two bells have rung, and in a winter that never ended, joy is a crime and the third bell is counting down.

The Silence Yet to Come is a Krampus one-shot for fifth edition, a dark winter ghost story built to run in a single evening with zero prep. Your table shelters from the Longest Night in an old stone ring and wakes three hundred years too late, in a frozen future where the winter won: gift-giving is outlawed, song is contraband, and the villages are work-camps under an iron sky. A ragged resistance finds the party before the cold does, because its oldest member has been waiting for them longer than they have been alive.

This is a stealth-and-survival book with a clock. The Deepening cold presses on every scene, and the party learns the shape of the thing that rules this world: not a different monster, but the guardian grown into the winter itself, the price of a chain that was never made whole. To reach the White Seat, the frozen court at the top of the world, they gather Mercies that could quiet him and Banes that could end him, and they carry out the last link of his broken chain. It ends on a real choice with no right answer: put the Winter King down and buy the resistance a dawn, sever the thread and escape with the warning, or reach the buried guardian still inside the monster and give it peace. Destroy, Contain, or Release, and the third link is earned on every one.

What makes it land is the warmth the resistance keeps alive in a world built to freeze it out. They hide bread and remember birthdays, and their hope is a discipline, not a mood, and your players will laugh with them right up until the silence at the White Seat.

Part of Krampus: A Yuletide Quartet. The Silence Yet to Come is Book Three of four standalone midwinter one-shots that tell one larger story across four winters: Book One, The First Frost; Book Two, The Naughty List; Book Three, The Silence Yet to Come; and Book Four, The Gnashing Court. Each stands completely on its own and plays in any order, so you never need the others to run this night. A warm chain-link passes from book to book, and a table that plays all four watches a single old debt come due.

What's Inside:

  • A complete one-shot, stealth and survival into a resistance network and a frozen throne, ready to run tonight with zero prep.
  • The Deepening cold as a living pressure, with Mercies to quiet the winter and Banes to end it, seeded so a table that investigates nothing still trips over the truth.
  • Original creatures with full stat blocks, including a Winter King boss built so it never one-shots a hero.
  • Four ready-made characters at levels 2-3, so anyone at the table can sit down and play.
  • Six maps, an area reference map plus five battle maps, drawn in a hand-inked, old-woodcut style.
  • Original pen-and-ink interior art throughout, from chapter openers to every creature and character.
  • Six opening hooks, a What If contingency guide, three endings, and a Yuletide Quartet appendix.

Perfect For:

• Game Masters who want a bleak, beautiful winter horror without the prep grind

• Small groups of 2-3 players at levels 2-3, in one 2-3 hour session

• A Christmas game night with teeth, a Krampus one-shot, or a dark tale between campaigns

• Any table that loves a dystopian ghost story, stubborn hope, and a monster you understand

Content note: a frozen dystopia, forced labor, and despair, resolved by ending and never by gore.

Everything you need to run a complete midwinter night is in these pages. Wake in the wrong year, carry the last link, and do not let the third bell finish.
