Zivatar’s gradient bands of lace and texture suggest an afternoon thunderstorm. As the sky darkens there’s a sense of gathering gloom and pressure, until – bam! – the darkness is pierced by dramatic flashes of light and noise. And then it clears, and all is sparkly light…

This was the November 2018 pattern for the Knitting Goddess shawl club, using a “magnificent seven” mini-skein set (120g total, comprising 6 shades of grey plus a rainbow skein). It can be easily adapted to other colour combinations – you’ll need around 17g/70m of yarn for the special rainbow contrast band. Charted as well as written instructions are provided.

Size:  
One size, measuring 69 in / 175 cm on longest side.

Gauge: 23 sts x 38 rows = 10 cm / 4 in square in garter stitch

Difficulty: Intermediate
Skills used: Increasing and decreasing, simple lace (from written or charted instructions), mock crochet picot cast- off (instructions included)

You will need:
Knitting Goddess 4-ply BFL/nylon (75% Bluefaced Leicester, 25% nylon; 400m / 437 yards per 100g skein): 1 x 120g miniskein set comprising 7 colours

Colours A1-A6: grey gradient set of 6 shades, numbered from lightest to darkest
Colour B: Storm
Note: tips are provided on using a different number of colours – anywhere from two up. You need at least 120g / 470m in total, but the composition is up to you.

3.5mm / US4 needles or size needed to achieve gauge
