Hey, hi, little butterfly!

You may have noticed that the Jewellery By Favourite Things 'brand colours' are soft pink, deep brown and brown paper - and it's this combo of colours that lies at the heart of the design for this necklace.

That and Bertie the little butterfly.

Not only are the beads in this contemporary piece  soft pink, deep brown and brown paper in colour, but the beads are threaded onto a super-soft, easy wear, leatherette brown cord that measures 22 inches (so it can simply be popped over your head), but there's bronze tone lobster claw fastening too - well you don't want to be messing your hair up - right?

There are two light 'brown paper' coloured wooden beads on either side of the cord (the design is symetrical) nestled next to barrel knots (yay finally mastered that technique).

Next to the (expertly executed 😜) barrel knot there's a large, light catching, pale pink cyrstal bead, that is sandwiched between two little bronze spacers.

The smooth, round  glass beads bare more than a passing resemblance the semi-precious stone - Amber, in both colour and style.

And then there's Bertie the butterfly: a seriously handsome and somewhat unusual dude, in shades of deep brown and brown paper.  His 'body' is made up of tiny bronze coloured metal beads and diamond shaped, lustre finished, ceramic, ombre beads (in pink and brown).

The butterfly and bead necklace is beautiful (don't you just love aliteration?), and has a lot of symbolism associated with it, including:
  • The metamorphosis from the plain and ordinary caterpillar to  exquisite butterfly is  cross-culterally recognised as a symbol of transformation and hope.
  • The flutterbye (as one of my grandbabies calls them) is also a metaphor for rebirth, resurrection and reincarnation.
  • There's also a spiritual, victorious battle of the soul, aspect that is again symbolised by the butterfly
  • My favourite however, comes from the beliefs of some Native American tribes who said  that if you catch a butterfly, whisper your wish and then set it free,  the butterfly will take your wish to the spirits, who will then grant it.
You don't have to catch a butterfly, I've done that for you, but you've nothing to loose by wispering your wishes to Bertie. And if you're thinking of giving the Butterfly and Beads Necklace as a gift, then you will be setting it free.

I'm sure the spirits will forgive you (and may still grant your wish) if you keep Bertie for yourself.
