This Christmas carol is based on a poem by Christina Rossetti. Thirty years later, Gustav Holst set the text to music for the 1906 edition of the English Hymnal. The warmth of this calm winter melody inspired me to drop the bass strings to expand the tessitura, detuning the 6th String (drop B) and 5th String (drop E) down a perfect 4th. The first section starts as a basic chord accompaniment but for the repeat of the melody, the texture is written in a four part voicing with the tenor counterpoint weaving through the harmony.
