On the Ball

"On the Ball" was written after the composer met vibes player Mike Hughes in the Williamson Art Gallery on the Wirral, and subsequently heard him play the vibes in both jazz and classical styles. The title arose because (a) Isabelle thought that the art gallery was on Ball's Road (it's actually on the adjacent Slatey Road), and (b) the piece requires some fast, nimble playing.
