Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Blues
"Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Blues" was commissioned by Heswall Concert Band during the COVID era; specifically, when freedoms were granted to the degree of people being allowed to meet up in groups of 6, but not to blow instruments. So the decision was made to compose a piece for body percussion, thus allowing all those wind and brass players to release their pent-up energy and rhythmic repression!
Besides an acoustic bass player, performers are divided into the following groups, with the recommended numbers indicated:
- Rhythm Hub
- hand brush (2 people)
- hip tap (2 people)
- clap (2 people)
- stamp (2 people)
- Shoulders (4-6 people)
- Bellies (4-6 people)
- Knees (4-6 people)
The director may wish to introduce some choreography, to convey whatever message they wish, or for pure humour ... creativity is to be encouraged!
Microphones may be used to amplify the body percussive sounds.
