The Whale of a Time Shawl is designed as a collaboration with my LYS Yarn Trader and is inspired by the Port Adelaide location of the shop. Sweeping waves of short rows reference the ocean, while the two colour tuck stitch (worked very similarly to brioche) is like whale baleen! The shawl is extra water-like when knit in a selection of blues, but would look great in any of your favourite colours!

FINISHED DIMENSIONS
Approximately 220cm (86 ½“) wingspan and 60cm (23 ¾”) at deepest point, relaxed after blocking.

YARN
Yarn Trader 100% Merino 4 ply (100% superwash Merino; 400m {437yds}/100g)

1 skein Colour A: Spice Blue (dark blue)
1 skein Colour B: Havisham Cream (cream)
1 skein Colour C: Caladan Waters (light blue)

Or 3x100g skeins of fingering weight/4ply yarn.
Sample used approximately:
365m (399yds) of Colour A,
296m (324yds) of Colour B and
298m (326yds) of Colour C.

If you would like assistance choosing the 3 colours, a good rule is to pick 1 light, 1 medium, and 1 dark colour for striking contrast between the sections of the shawl. The darkest colour works well as Colour A so you end up with bold stripes across your short row sections, and using the lightest colour as Colour B will also help those stripes to stand out.
