When I was in kindergarten there was a girl in my class named Allison who wore her thick, brown hair in beautiful braids. Even though I have not thought about her in a long time, I was reminded of those braids when working the cables for this scarf. Knit in a chunky weight yarn, I especially love the edges that form naturally.
Skill Level:  Intermediate

Required Skills: Cast on, knit, purl, cables, bind off. Intarsia experience is helpful but not required.
One Size
Finished Measurements:  56" length; 8" width
Gauge:  16 sts and 20 rows = 4” (10cm) in stockinette stitch. Gauge is not critical for this project but a different gauge will affect yarn requirements and size of finished piece. Take time to check gauge.
Materials:
  • Yarn: Bulky weight variegated yarn with long color changes; 390 yards. Model shown in Plymouth Gina (100% Wool; 131yds per 100g), 3 skeins, color # 104 Sunset
  • Needles: US 10 (6.0mm) straight needles, or size needed to obtain gauge
  • Cable needle
  • Yarn needle
Notes: After casting on and working two rows, this project is worked in three columns of intarsia (segments). Each segment is worked with its own skein of yarn. To make sure that each segment starts with a different color, examine the yarn ends of each purchased skein. When working across each row, be sure to pick up the new yarn from under the yarn begin dropped to link the yarns as for intarsia and prevent holes in the fabric.
