1844 D&C JSV Edition || Complete
The Joseph Smith Version (JSV) is an attempt to produce a text as close to what Joseph Smith approved as possible while also providing 1876 verses so modern believers can easily find references quoted in the many thousands of publications that use that standard versification -- a version modern saints can use both for daily readings and for historical reference. The JSV also records and explores textual changes made during Joseph’s lifetime to allow readers the opportunity of reading a Joseph-approved text while also observing and analyzing changes he either personally made or delegated to be made by a committee.
Joseph Smith was commanded to correct published scriptures. He counseled one of his assistants not to alter the "sense" of any passage but to clean up the text to remove errors of men. However, edits and changes continued long after Joseph's death, which shrouded the history of Joseph Smith's revelatory works with controversy and distrust among various Mormon, restorationist groups. Because only large groups, (and especially the mainstream LDS church) have published scriptures, other Mormon saints have not had a version that they can all confidently trust.
This Joseph Smith Version (JSV) hopes to fill that gap. It reproduces the original 1844 D&C while also footnoting and highlighting changes that Joseph Smith or committee members made so that the reader can see the progression of passages. Also, the JSV includes 1876 versification so the reader can use it for studies and references from many thousands of sources using that same verse system.
This volume is part of an upcoming "triple combination" that will be available both in paperback, hardcover, and a traditional leather-bound, gold-gilded onion paper scripture edition. All JSV editions in paperback or hardcover are listed on an extremely low profit margin to help poor families to afford them.
