L'Espérance Shawl

L’Espérance is a casually luxurious and romantic, crescent shawl for someone who enjoys frills without the fuss. This shawl is meditative to work on, with thoughtfully composed eyelet details that give a light, airy aesthetic without the concentration required of lace.

L’Espérance was born out of this season of hopeful waiting. I’ve always loved the French language, and when I recalled the word “espérance”, I felt it was the exact word that represented a season of longing. The word is often translated into English as “hopeful expectation”, or even “promise”.

Whether you are knitting this shawl through a season of struggle or joy, I pray that the optimism and hope of a brighter tomorrow are knit into your heart, stitch by stitch.

This pattern was a collaboration with Crux Fibres. It has been designed using two colors, but could also be done in a single color or multiple colors. A single-ply yarn is recommended for ideal drape, but any fingering weight yarn would be lovely.

Yarn requirements:
437 yds/100g Fingering weight yarn (MC)
315 yds/72g Fingering weight yarn (CC)
The sample uses 395 yds/90g and 285 yds/65g, respectively.
