Roisinis Hat Knitting Pattern

Roisinis is named after a deserted village on the Scottish island of Eriskay. It’s an amazingly atmospheric place, with ruined houses, wild weather, beautiful beaches and curious sheep. I knit this hat while on holiday there, and it would be perfect to wear in different ways to suit the island’s ever changing weather.

The fully reversible Roisinis has a simple, clever construction: knit as one long tube from a provisional cast-on, it is then folded and twisted before being joined at the ribbing. The twist creates an elegant spiral crown for a hat, while still allowing it to be opened and worn as a cowl.
