Breakwater Hat is one of nine designs in The Sun and Fog Winter 2021 Collection, a collaboration of knit and crochet patterns by Northern California designers and dyers celebrating community and togetherness from the foggy shores to the sunny valleys of Northern California.
For a brief time, I was fortunate enough to live in Pacific Grove, California, and could walk to Asilomar Beach from my house. I loved to explore the rocky coast and the tide pools, and I had a secret spot that I went to often to sit and watch the waves come in. The water crashing upon the rocks and rushing back out through the narrow channels in the formations is the inspiration behind the Breakwater Hat.
Breakwater Hat features alternating chevron patterns separated by purl ridges for texture and crown decreases hidden in the colorwork for a polished look. The colorwork is intuitive and the floats are short, making this a perfect project for beginning colorwork knitters.

16” circular needles and double pointed needles in US Size 1 (2.25mm) and US Size 2 (2.5mm) or size needed to achieve correct gauge listed above.
Tools
Stitch marker, locking stitch marker, tapestry needle.
