Open G is a rhythm tuning first and a slide tuning second, and this guide treats it that way.

It covers the I, IV and ♭VII chords under one hand position, slide over the root-position triad on the top three strings, and the ♭III move. There are 18 playable shapes, 12 full-neck chord maps and 8 scale maps in intervals, plus three phrases in tab.

It also explains the thing most Open G players eventually work out: the lowest string is the 5th, not the root. Strum all six and the chord sounds unsettled. That's why so many players ignore the 6th string or take it off, and the guide shows you what to do instead.

Everything here also works in Open A.
