Most freelancers pay $10-20 a month for an invoicing app that keeps their client list on someone else's server and locks the useful parts behind a higher tier.

FreelanceDesk is one file. Double-click it and it runs in the browser you already have - Chrome, Edge, Safari or Firefox - with the internet switched off. No account, no subscription, no data leaving your computer.

WHAT IT DOES

- Clients: rate, currency, billing address, notes, and what each one currently owes you.

- Time log: record work in 20 seconds. Unbilled hours stay visible until you invoice them. Hours held by another invoice - even an unsent draft - are skipped, so the same hour cannot be billed twice.

- One-click billing: "Bill unbilled to invoice" gathers every unbilled hour for a client into a draft, merged by task and rate, ready to edit.

- Invoices: line items, tax, discount, 16 currencies, due-date terms, and your own invoice series. Since 1.0.9 the numbers are built from your business name and VAT number (MS-FI26-0001, not the generic INV-0001 that every buyer shipped with), and a number you have already issued is refused instead of duplicated. Draft / Sent / Paid / Void, with overdue invoices flagging themselves.

- PDF invoices: one button uses your browser's own "Save as PDF". No watermark, no page limit, no third-party service in the middle.

- Dashboard: outstanding, overdue count, unbilled hours, paid this month, a six-month chart, and top clients by billed value.

- Take your data with you: invoices CSV, time-log CSV, full JSON backup and restore. Moving to a new computer takes 30 seconds.

1. Service agreement: scope, schedule, deposits, revision rounds, ownership and kill fee, written in plain English with placeholders you fill in.

HONEST CAVEATS, BEFORE YOU BUY

- Your data lives in your browser on your machine. That is what keeps it private and free, and it also means clearing your browser data deletes your records. Use the backup button weekly and keep that file somewhere safe.

- This is a single HTML file, not a mobile app, and there is no shared team ledger or multi-user sync.

- These four documents are a starting point written in ordinary language, not legal advice. Have a lawyer in your jurisdiction review anything you send repeatedly.

- It is not accounting or tax software and does not file anything for you.

- If you bill in more than one currency, totals stay split by currency (shown as "$1,800.00 + €950.00") and the monthly chart plots your default currency and says how many invoices it left out. Nothing is converted at a made-up rate.
