Formed in 1933 as A.H.’s personal bodyguard unit, the 1. SS-Panzerdivision „Leibstandarte SS A.H.“ (LSSAH) became one of the most prominent and controversial units in the German military during World War II. Initially serving as a ceremonial and elite infantry unit, it transformed into a highly effective panzer division, participating in major battles across the Western and Eastern Fronts, including the Battle of France, Operation Barbarossa, the Battle of Kursk, and the defense of Germany in 1945. The LSSAH combat set includes the standard feldgrau M40/M43 Feldbluse, feldgrau Feldhosen, and Marschstiefel or Schnürschuhe mit Gamaschen. Soldiers often wore Tarnjacken or Tarnanzüge in Erbsenmuster (pea dot) or Eichenlaubmuster (oak leaf camouflage) depending on the season and available supplies. The division's iconic black SS collar tabs with SS-Runen, along with the Leibstandarte cuff title on the sleeve, identified its elite status. Headgear included the M43 Feldmütze or the M40/M42 Stahlhelm, often with camouflage covers in the field. As one of the most decorated and feared divisions, the LSSAH set represents a significant part of the German military’s image during the war, mixing both the elite nature and brutal history of the unit's service.
