Science at the Pool: Eyes, Brain + Visual Processing
OctoVision is a printable, pool-based science lesson that turns Octopus Tag into an active exploration of vision, visual processing, reflection, angles, movement patterns, and prediction.
Kids will scan the play area, use peripheral vision, recognize repeated movement patterns, predict where other players may move, and practice controlled escape routes. Along the way, they will learn how the eyes collect visual information, how the retina responds to light, how the optic nerve carries signals, and how the brain turns those signals into useful movement decisions.
This mission is designed to feel like a game first—and sneak in real science while kids are moving, observing, predicting, and having fun.

Octopus Tag
A moving-Octopus version of the classic pool game. Players cross the shallow play area while avoiding the Octopus and planted Seaweed taggers. Gentle hand taps, controlled movement, and safe arm-distance reaching keep the game active and low-pressure.
OctoVision Challenge Games
Practice three visual and movement skills through Side-Eye Signal, Angle Cut Escape, and Pattern Predictor.
Mirror Mission
Compare direct vision, peripheral vision, and mirror-assisted views while exploring how reflected light and changing mirror angles affect what you notice.
Angle Cut Escape
Practice four controlled escape routes: Zigzag, Acute-Angle Turn, Juke Move, and Wide Arc.
Little OctoVision Station
A preschool-friendly shallow-water activity that introduces light, the retina, movement detection, side vision, and the eyes-to-brain pathway through simple Look, Scan, and React challenges.
Best for
Ages 6–13, with built-in shallow-water and low-pressure adaptations for younger kids, mixed-age groups, hesitant swimmers, and neurodivergent learners.
