Tilting at Windmills Afghan/Wall-hanging - PDF knitting pattern

This has always been one of our most popular designs. In addition to it being a stunning way to decorate your room, as a wall-hanging or afghan, it is ideal for using up all the oddments of yarn you have accumulated.

It is also brilliant as a group project as each person can work to their own gauge and the pieces are guaranteed to fit perfectly. One of the photos shows a group project from a branch of the Women’s Institute in Cheshire, England (See more afghans from Cheshire WI, all inspired by this pattern)

The booklet of instructions explains, in simple language, not signs and symbols, how to make the design the way you want it.

We ask the same question whether we are working with tiny children or university professors: ‘Is this a pattern?’ If you don’t believe that question can provoke an argument, ask a few friends round to look at it with you. Then go on to ask them to describe what they see. Their answers may surprise you. I wrote a blog post about what you may, or may not, see.

In August 2017 we went to Ely cathedral to photograph the labyrinth and found windmills in the porch
