A complete, paired risk assessment and method statement for Painting, Decorating and Floor Finishes, written as a full worked example on a real-looking UK project, the way a principal contractor's reviewer expects to receive it.

Not a blank form. Every hazard row and every step of the sequence is filled in for a named task, with plant, quantities, named roles and the hold points a reviewer looks for. You edit the specifics for your job; the structure, the control hierarchy and the standards table are already right.

Risk assessment (RAMS-20-RA): 10 hazards, each with who is at risk and how, existing controls, likelihood and severity on a 5 × 5 matrix before and after additional controls, the hierarchy of control from MHSWR Schedule 1, PPE beyond site minimum, emergency arrangements and a review record. Hazards covered include:

  • Isocyanates in the two-pack PU resin floor - respiratory sensitisation (occupational asthma), skin sensitisation; WEL 0.02 mg/m3 8-h TWA / 0.07 mg/m3 STEL (as -NCO)
  • Solvent vapour - xylene / white spirit primer (xylene WEL 50 ppm 8-h / 100 ppm STEL, skin notation), fire
  • Dust - filler sanding, diamond grinding of the workshop slab (RCS 0.1 mg/m3)
  • Fire and explosion - solvent primer, resin components (flash points on the SDS), hot-air seam welder, rags
  • Falls - podiums and steps for ceilings and high walls at 2.7-3.6 m
  • Skin contact - resin base and hardener, primer, adhesive; dermatitis

And 4 more.

Method statement (RAMS-20-MS): scope, persons and competence, 6 items of plant with their inspection requirements, materials and hazardous substances, permits and hold points (5), a 14-step sequence of work with hazards, controls and the check or ITP line for each step, emergency arrangements specific to the task, supervision and stop-work triggers, and the briefing and sign-on record.
